Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made a three-nation tour of East Africa as Beijing looks to deepen ties with its allies in the Horn of Africa. Wang visited China’s new belt and road partner nation Eritrea, as well as Kenya and the Comoros from January 4-7, 2022. China has proposed to appoint a special envoy to facilitate the development of peace as well as security talks in the conflict-ridden region. In addition to Kenya and Eritrea, the Horn in eastern Africa, includes Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia, Sudan and South Sudan.
