During a drill in Crimea, Russian Airborne Forces (VDV) T-72 tanks were seen with screens to
protect them from top-attack weapons.
On December 24, 2021, the Russian Ministry of Defense’s TV Zvezda broadcast footage of the
7th Guards Air Assault Division exercising on the Opuk training range during significant
manoeuvres.
A raised mesh screen was installed above the turrets of several of the division’s T-72B3 main

combat tanks. These screens appear to be designed to counter top-attack weapons like the US-
made Javelin anti-tank guided weapon or guided missiles fired from unmanned aerial vehicles

(UAVs) by detonating high-explosive anti-tank warheads before they strike the turret roof of a
tank.
