’Twas the days before Christmas and all through the house, you’ll find cookies and candies, eggnog and stouts.
It’s the season for celebrating, not counting calories. However, Hillsborough County Aging Services Dietician Brian Taylor says, the numbers tend to add up very quick this time of year.
As many residents are putting the finishing touches on recipes for their festive feasts, Taylor has a few tips to make the holidays healthier:.
• Be active and exercise in between baking, parties, and wrapping presents
• Get plenty of sleep
• Be mindful of portion sizes
• Stay hydrated and limit liquid calories
• Include vegetables and healthier dishes in holiday meals
Taylor says you don’t need to deprive yourself or diet during the holidays, but practicing mindful eating will help you stay on the right track.
